How: Business Model

CISI Scrl, as the Life Sciences incubator part of "Milano Crea Impresa-The Incubator Network of the City of Milan", is characterized by its capacity to perform:

  • scouting and evaluation of ideas and support to their evolution until the identification of sustainable Business Models and Business Plans with a potential for success.This is done through:
    •  requesting proposals and project ideas from researchers affiliated with CISI Scrl Shareholders (e.g., CNR or UniMi) or with other institutions (e.g., various Italian universities), through participation/presentations of CISI scrl at national or international events, or through specific calls handled by the project "Milano Crea Impresa-La rete degli incubatori della Città di Milano", and then
    • selecting the most deserving among the proposals submitted by recognized experts in the Biotech/Life Sciences sector, affiliated with CISI scrl.
  • Development of incubated firms, especially related to management and implementation of R&D projects, creation of partnerships, financing strategies, recruitment and training.This is done through:
    • establishment of working teams, composed by the proposers of each project idea and an affiliate to CISI Scrl with experience in converting an entrepreneurial idea into a business case;
    • generation by each team of the documentation required for the submission of the business case to the community of potential public or private funding agencies (e.g., Executive Summary, Business Plan, Budgets, Project Activity Plans).;
    • non-scientific support (skills in project management, business development, human resources, etc..) to the proposers of each incubation project;
    • access to facilities and logistics services (office space, laboratory space) available for each incubation project.
  • scientific support and planning, through the access provided to existing CISI scrl Platforms and Technologies (six directly operated by CISI Scrl, eight available through collaboration with laboratories located at POLO). This is done through
    • scientific/technological support to carry out prioritized project activities for the validation of the business case, either using CISI Scrl platforms or (if necessary) using external CROs.
  • Networking, with the generation of a set of regional, national and international privileged contacts (public and private funding agencies, Biotech/Life Science experts, leading national and international companies, financial, IP and legal assistance, etc.) covering many scientific and non-scientific aspects of Life Sciences R&D. This will be done through
    • "visibility" for incubated companies through participations and presentations at Italian and international Biotech/Life Science meetings;
    • interactions with CISI Scrl Shareholders (CNR, UniMi), who within their laboratories develop projects of relevance to the Biotech/Life Science sector, and with the project "Milano Crea Impresa-The Incubator Network of the City of Milan" to form a framework for joint research and sharing of people and skills, building a reservoir of skills and potential projects/business ideas for incubated companies at CISI Scrl;
    • interactions with the UniMi CISI Center of Excellence for training of researchers needed for incubated companies at CISI Scrl.
