With whom: Incubated Companies

There are four companies at the Polo Scientifico "Renato Dulbecco" that are directly attributable to the incubator function of CISI SCRL. Here is a brief description of each, with a link to their websites.

KtedoGen (www.ktedogen.com) is a research-based, privately held biotechnology company focused on bioprospecting, that is the discovery of novel microrganism and of the bioctive molecules they produce, with a focus on anti-infectives with novel structures and unprecedented mechanisms of actions. In research collaborations with other partners, KtedoGen provides unique microbial strains for the discovery of novel bioactive compounds and biological catalysts, and for improved production processes. Through its participation in NAICONS, KtedoGen is also involved in the discovery and development of new antibiotics for serious infections caused by multi-drug resistant pathogens.

NAICONS (New Anti-Infectives CONSortium, www.naicons.com) is a new organization aiming at integrating resources in the field of Infectious Diseases to create a strategic and operative hub dedicated to discover and develop novel antibiotics targeting unmet medical needs. NAICONS combines biological and chemical diversity with critical expertise in Infectious Diseases, spanning from early discovery to clinical development, and has already a portfolio of proprietary products belonging to novel chemical classes.

NeED Pharmaceuticals (Neglected Endemic Diseases Pharmaceuticals, www.needpharma.com) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel anti-infective drugs for the treatment of serious and neglected infectious diseases, where a large unmet medical need and market opportunity are clearly present. NeED has already a portfolio of intellectual property and know-how, including anti-infective drugs with competitive advantages over existing products such as activity against resistant strains, reduced toxicity and/or more convenient administration.

Nexthera Biosciences (www.nexthera.com) is an emergent Italian biopharmaceutical company specialized in Infectious Diseases and focused on rapidly bringing to market novel drugs which fulfill unmet medical needs and can generate substantial financial returns. Nexthera is already developing two compounds in its portfolio, one for multiresistant Gram positive pathogens (IND in late 2009) and one for topical treatment of acne (ongoing Phase I clinical study).
