Why: Background/Rationale
Equally important than the incubator function performed by CISI scrl is to provide to already existing young companies, often forced to focus their internal investments in a few areas, access to specialized groups of researchers. For example, the opportunity to work in key areas such as modern, high throughput synthetic, computational and analytical chemistry; or access to tangible assets and expertise in therapeutic areas such as infectious diseases and oncology.
The UniMi CISI Center of Excellence in the past, and CISI Scrl now, developed their internal skills, Platforms and Technologies so to support young and dynamic Italian companies in the above mentioned areas. This should limit the investment needed for young companies to access an integrated R&D engine, but should also create a fertile ground to stimulate people and groups with original ideas in Biotech/Life Sciences to develop them properly.
Resources for project acceleration at CISI scrl are organized as technology platforms. Each platform is resourced and supervised to develop and progress R&D programs of interest for CISI scrl and for project collaborators, including incubated companies. The five operating platforms are: Computational Chemistry/Molecular Modeling, Chemoinformatics, Iterative Medicinal Chemistry, Parallel/Combinatorial Chemistry and Analytical/Bioanalytical Chemistry. CISI scrl is also active in identifying, through the use of the above mentioned platforms above, active compounds for anti-infective and oncology applications.
Access to one or more of these platforms, and to the chemical-pharmaceutical expertise of CISI scrl, is possible through various collaborative models, explained in details at Business Model.
