People: Who we are

We are Shareholders and Institutional Partners. CISI Scrl is owned by four partners, all essential to ensure efficiency and to maximize its interactions with public and private, Italian and international research groups. The four shareholders are

  • The Italian National Research Council (CNR) and UniMi, which provide supervision to the scientific operations at CISI Scrl, ensure scientific and technological synergies (technology platforms and human skills’ sharing with CISI scrl), and provide a source of incubation (business ideas from top researchers) and acceleration projects (ongoing pharma projects at CNR and UniMi which may be partnered via CISI scrl);
  • The Dulbecco Foundation, which will ensure, as manager of the POLO, the harmonization and synergies between the activities of CISI Scrl and those of other POLO companies;
  • The Italbiotec Consortium, which will provide access to necessary tools for advanced training of young researchers who will be involved in incubated and accelerated programs carried out by CISI Scrl.

Since its inception, CISI scrl became part of the project "Milano Crea Impresa-The Incubator Network of the City of Milan", created in collaboration with Alintec and promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Research, Innovation and Human Resource Department, in which CISI scrl acts as the Incubator of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, with the overall goal to be a support center to develop new business ideas, and to accelerate and consolidate existing ideas/projects/companies in the field of biotechnology and life sciences.

Our People. The structure of CISI scrl is structured to be sufficient to achieve the ambitious goals set by our strategy, but at the same time to minimize the fixed costs related to our operation.

The key company manager is its CEO, Prof. Carlo Scolastico,  who is an internationally renowned scientific and business expert in Life Sciences, and will be essential for scouting and progressing new entepreneurial ideas. The Scientific Director, Prof. Pierfausto Seneci, combines pharmaceutical and management experience gained in European and American R&D centers with an extensive financial and business network comprising venture capitalists, business angels and pharma opinion leaders.

The needed development perspective is assured to CISI scrl by our R&D Pharmaceutical Expert, Prof. Cesare Casagrande, who will monitor the positioning and the potential of each incubation and/or acceleration project in view of its partnering and downstream preclinical and clinical development. The bioanalytical expertise required for quality control of operations in laboratories, as well as a wide experience in business management and human resources, is guaranteed by our Analytical & Biophysical Chemistry Expert, Dr. Vincenzo Rizzo.

Each of the four managers mentioned above has at least 25 years of experience in pharmaceutical research, either in public (UniMi, University of Zurich) and private labs (GSK, Marion Merrell Dow, Zambon, Pharmacia-Pfizer), and is familiar with a wide range of therapeutic areas (oncology, CV, CNS, antibacterial, antifungal). A few others affiliated with CISI scrl have several years of scientific-technical experience in science and technology (laboratory heads) and in financial and administrative managing of CISI scrl (accounting and budgeting, submission of funding applications, etc.).

The close relationship with UniMi provides CISI scrl with a privileged access to young, motivated researchers. The project-based contract structure that is put in place by them provides the needed flexibility to adapt our manpower to the workload, while allowing the incubated companies and / or our partners to access high quality, well trained human resources after they have been evaluated by CISI scrl.
